Modern Sound
$229.00 / Sold Out
The heat of Summer is upon us. The time of year when most germanium fuzzes drift into unstable territory. It only took a couple seasons for Dallas Arbiter to move their Fuzz Faces to greener silicon pastures. Seems like a good time to throw my hat into the ring. My tribute to that evolution is named the "Modern Sound" after one of the London shops where the original units were sold and presumably even built.
At its heart lies the classic silicon sound. Modest volume for lower output pickups of the time. A scooped midrange showcasing the bright aggressive texture you know and love. With the flick of the "mod" switch an alternate version can be found. A Modern Sound if you will. Midrange and bass content are increased as well as the volume output. All making a friendlier pairing for heavy music, high output pickups, as well as cutting through a mix. Transistor bias remains the same in both settings.
Subtle tweaks across the circuit make the sweet spots easier to obtain. Treble oscillation is reigned in. Reverse audio taper fuzz pot remedies the abrupt action of the original. An internal trimpot can be used to adjust the input pre gain letting you tighten things up especially when using neck pickups. Bias trimpot lets you find the best combination of linear guitar volume clean up and slightly gated texture that can vary wildly in vintage units. No wheels are being reinvented here. Just a solid silicon Fuzz Face with one foot in the late 60's and one wherever you want to find your Modern Sound.
Built with custom all steel enclosures made in the USA. You'll notice the old school 3 color silkscreen scheme is a call back to various paints used on vintage units! Axial electro caps, Wima output caps. Switchcraft jacks. True bypass switching. Led indicator and 9v jack.
